Turkey’s Ambassador to Budapest Pays Courtesy Call

On Friday, 23 February in Budapest, Minister of Defence Dr. István Simicskó received in his office Turkish Ambassador Ahmet Akif Oktay on a courtesy call. Turkey’s ambassador to Budapest presented his letter of credence to President of Hungary János Áder on 15 January 2018.

During the courtesy call, Minister of Defence Dr. István Simicskó stated that Turkey is a very important strategic partner and ally of Hungary, our military-to-military relations are balanced, free of problems, and are developing continuously. Hungary is open to expanding the scope of cooperation in the field of the defence industry and military technology as well, the minister added.

At the meeting, the Minister of Defence emphasized that Hungary is paying special attention to the developments and changes in the region, and highly appreciates Turkey’s efforts made in the framework of the EU–Turkey deal to manage the migration crisis hitting Europe.

Further topics of the ambassadorial meeting included the details of a visit to Budapest by Turkish Defence Minister Nurettin Canikli, which is scheduled for early March.
