At the end of March, the Hungarian peacekeepers deployed with the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) returned home successfully, with useful experiences gained in the operation.

Hungary contributes four personnel per rotation to the military component of the operation. Two staff officers serve in the operations centre of the mission, and two observers – deployed with Team Sites located farther from Bangui, the capital of the country – conduct patrols and negotiations. The most important task of the multinational military mission is to engage the rebels of the terrorist organization “Lord’s Resistance Army" that is active in the eastern areas of the country.

Since November 2015 there has been a significant improvement in the security situation around the country, especially in the capital city. The new president, Faustin-Archange Touadéra and his government has paid great attention to stabilization and also to excluding from the administration the leaders involved in the earlier conflict. These days the greatest challenge is to kick-start the economy of the country as things are returning to normal.

From the end of March, another four Hungarian soldiers started their tour of duty in the second rotation with the African mission.
