MOLO Workshop in Camp Famagusta

Szöveg: Capt. Zoltán Sándor (Cyprus) |  2011. július 8. 6:33

June 30 was another busy and interesting day in the life of UNFICYP Camp Famagusta. For the first time, a MOLO workshop was held in the camp to provide the military observer and liaison officers (MOLOs) with a venue for sharing the lessons learned, keeping themselves informed of the present situation and also for discussing current problems and their possible solutions.

The participants of the workshop – which was opened by Hungarian Lt.-Col. Imre Kovács, the deputy commander of Sector 4 – arrived from all three sectors of the UNFICYP mission. The representatives of several troop contributing countries attended the meeting, including Argentine, British and Chilean MOLOs who were hosted by the Slovak, Croatian and Hungarian ones.

Several UNFICYP key leaders attended the theoretical and practical presentations both as part of the audience and as lecturers, so the presence of these senior officers enhanced the quality of the workshop and underscored its importance.

The participants all agreed that the MOLO workshop has professional benefits, so they decided to organize similar workshops in other sectors on a monthly basis.

This kind of rotation helps the MOLOs to learn more about each other’s areas of responsibility (AOR) and daily problems and also to have an insight into the culture, values and hospitality of other nations.

The MOLOs are scheduled to meet again one month later in the British Sector 2.
