For the first time in the history of the mission, Sergeant Major Angelo Fuchs, KFOR Command Sergeant Major organized the KFOR annual swimming competition which took place in Pristina, Kosovo on July 4.

Prior to the event, the Commander of KFOR, Maj.-Gen. Volker R. Halbauer ordered full safety check for the competition, including the quality control of the water. Based on the test results, the KFOR health care advisor declared the water quality to be safe.

The more than 200 competitors representing all KFOR nations had opportunity to match their technique and strength inside an outdoor swimming pool at Park Germia, in a suburban district of Pristina, the capital of Kosovo.

The servicewomen of the just six-strong Hungarian team gave an excellent performance during the individual events, winning one gold, two silver and one bronze medal. The Hungarian team entered two relay events, where it won one gold and one silver medal. We can be especially proud of Capt. Dorottya Kerekes, who has been chosen the best female competitor.

The program officially created the atmosphere of military competitions, although besides competing, the primary goal was to strengthen the esprit de corps. The participating nations were supporting the competing teams with all their heart and with the same enthusiasm, just as if their members had been soldiers from their own countries, since they became true comrades during this short time.
