Acting on the recommendation of Portuguese Chief of Defence Gen. Artur P. Monteiro,
Ambassador Pines awarded the Special Service Commissions Medal (Medalha Comemorativa
de Comissões de Serviço Especiais)
served together with their Portuguese comrades in the 14th rotation of the Hungarian KFOR
Contingent.
“Two nations, one force" – this is how the ambassador of Portugal to Budapest described the
ongoing cooperation between the two countries. “I think that our countries can rightly be
proud of our troops. Through their dedicated and selfless service, they have been contributing
to the peace and stability of Kosovo for almost two decades."
After the award of the medals, Deputy Chief of Defence Lt.-Gen. Dr. Zoltán Orosz said that
“we are very proud of our soldiers and the cooperation that has developed between the two
nations in Kosovo over the years." The lieutenant-general pointed out that it is always a great
honor to see that a representative of a NATO ally whose troops are co-deployed with the
Hungarians decorates our soldiers. “Our thanks go to the Portuguese state and armed forces
for the recognition and the joint service".
As most of the soldiers decorated at the ceremony serve with the HDF 5th Bocskai István
Infantry Brigade, the event was also attended by Brigade Commander Brig.-Gen. Dr.
Romulusz Ruszin.
