The Hungarian Reformed Church Aid has recently donated humanitarian aid packages worth HUF 12 million to several disadvantaged families and schools in Kosovo. In cooperation with the HDF KFOR Contingent, two members from the leadership of the charity organization – Sándor Pál, Director of the Advisory Board and Dániel Osgyán, Chief Executive Officer – delivered the donated aid to the families in need and to the institutions.

The representatives of the Hungarian Reformed Church Aid were joined by Capt. Szilárd Sajtos, reformed field chaplain of the contingent on their visit to several villages in Podujevo Municipality, where families live in need of assistance. During the Kosovo war, many people became homeless, and having claimed victims, the conflict left a lot of broken homes as well. According to the registers, of the more than 2,000 orphans of the country, some five hundred live in this area, where the Hungarian soldiers regularly execute tasks.

Following a consultation with the village leaders, the families received clothes, various vitamins and food. The items distributed among the seven school of the region included photocopiers, interactive boards and 20 computers as well as various preserved foods and nearly 500 English textbooks.

After distributing the donations and meeting local people, the representatives of the charity organization told us that the aid was now in the right hands, since the people would make good use of the things donated everywhere. The IT equipment and the English textbooks significantly improve the educational standards of Kosovo youth, and the clothes, vitamins and food come as great help before the winter.

The locals repeatedly said that beyond receiving the donation, it is very important to them to see that others were thinking of them, came to them and showed interest in the life, education and future of the people living here. The heads of institutions and those in need are grateful to the Hungarians for their efforts made in the interest of peace and the Kosovans’ future, and also for their friendship.

Apart from assisting Kosovans in need, the objective of the Hungarian Reformed Church Aid with this donation is to help build up consent in the local population in furtherance of the Hungarian soldiers’ mission in areas where Hungarian peacekeepers regularly conduct presence patrolling.
