The Military Medical Support of the soldiers serving in Kosovo has expanded in more areas in September.

The nations provide the emergency and life-saving surgical level support of the NATO Kosovo Force (KFOR) operation by mutual contracts and financing, through outsourced capability, called Role-2 BASIC, which covers a primary-level medical facility, expressly specialised on emergency and life-saving surgical treatment.

By the decision and with the joint financing of the State Parties, the scope of services is now widened with primary and emergency dental care, operating under the same strict quality and security requirements as the other units of the medical facility. The new dental unit provides dental treatment for the entitled personnel serving in KFOR as from 24th September.

The operation of the Role-2 BASIC capability needs a quality, reliable and non-stop blood supply, the provision of which poses a major challenge in the theatre of operation due to the stringent regulations, the particularly high-quality requirements, and the increasing need. The firm operating the Role-2 BASIC capability managed to conclude an agreement with the Hungarian National Blood Transfusion Service, under which the operator of the medical facility can obtain blood and blood products also from Hungary in the future.

The largest military contingent of the Hungarian Defence Forces serves in KFOR, with about 400 troops. Therefore, it is their elementary interest to make sure that the necessary and sufficient amount of blood for the on-site conduct of the emergency and life-saving surgical interventions is available non-stop and at all times. The Hungarian National Blood Transfusion Service and all blood-donors deserve thanks, who have contributed in this way to the safe performance of the peace-keeping mission of the Hungarian Defence Forces and the international community.
