It happened on July 22 this year for the first time, that we could keep the memorial day of the Nándorfehérvár Victory won five hundred and fifty-five years ago. At the commemoration followed with a holy Mass in the capital, MoD Parliamentary State Secretary Dr. István Simicskó told us: “I believe it is an imperative to commemorate the glorious moments of history, but it is also vital not to approach historic events – that ended sometimes to Hungary’s disadvantage – in a negative way."

"If we look back to the period of the Battle of Nándorfehérvár, we will see that the army of Mehmet II was formidable, and not only because they outnumbered the Hungarian troops. The Turkish victory was almost certain, but the combination of deep faith, good leadership, and help coming from abroad worked a miracle. Hunyadi managed to halt them; and in consequence Europe escaped the foreign yoke, too. It also demonstrates that we must not live an egoistic life, for we have to identify the problem and solve it with the aforementioned approach" – added the State Secretary.

Dr. István Simicskó also mentioned in his address that in the near future a Catholic church will be built at the Etele út site. After the ceremony the State Secretary presented the building permit to Father Antal Musits, who kept on trusting and fighting for a year so that the place of worship financed by the Church could be built.
