The recently held medal parade was an extraordinary one for the members of the EUFOR mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Currently service personnel from 19 nations – including the peacekeepers of the Hungarian Defence Forces – are serving with the peacekeeping operation.

The medal parade held for the service members nearing the completion of their tour of duty was an extraordinary one, because for the first time in EUFOR’s history, it coincided with a visit to Sarajevo by Gen. Sir James Everard, NATO Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe (DSACEUR) and EUFOR Operation Commander, and also with a rotation of the HDF EUFOR Contingent.

At the event, the medals were presented to the personnel on parade by General Everard, COMEUFOR Maj.-Gen. Anton Waldner and EUFOR Chief of Staff Brig.-Gen. József Szpisják.

The EUFOR Operation Commander stated that all participants of the EUFOR Operation are doing a very important job. He added that EUFOR is committed to Bosnia-Herzegovina’s aspirations to join the European Union.

The 27 peacekeepers of the 20th rotation of the HDF EUFOR Contingent were among the 162 service members of eight nations, who are the recipients of the EU Common Security and Defence Policy Medal Althea. The new rotation of the Hungarian contingent has already arrived in Camp Butmir, Sarajevo, and the Hungarian maneuver company of the EUFOR Multinational Battalion will soon start service as well.
