Hungarian Melodies in Sweden

One of Sweden’s most prestigious festivals of military music, the Eksjö International Tattoo took place between 11 and 13 August. Apart from the local civilian ensembles, a number of British, Danish and Latvian military bands presented their programs. The organizers created a truly authentic festival atmosphere, as the bands were playing marches in the historic quarter of the town to attract the audience. In spite of the unfavorable weather conditions during the event, every evening the audiences saw and heard a show of formation drills in the packed “arena", and then the program of the joint band followed.

Apart from playing pieces of light pop music, the band gave a church concert to a full house, which was a great success. It was also attended by Torgny Hanson, the musical director of the festival. The Hungarian-style melodies and the performance by the dancers of Pavane Historical Dance Group wearing “palotás" dresses was a huge success. At the end of the event, the organizers praised the discipline, good presence and excellent musical tone of the Hungarian band.
