Four air crew and two ground crew members from the HDF 86th Szolnok Helicopter Base have recently started working as advisors in Kabul as part of the Resolute Support Mission.

Partnering with American and Czech colleagues, the individual air advisors assist the (further) training of air and ground crews in the Afghan Air Force for Mi–17 transport helicopters.

Five of the individual air advisors have already served in similar positions in Afghanistan. Back then, they conducted the basic training of Afghan helicopter pilots and ground crews for the Mi–17 transport helicopters on Shindand Air Base in Herat Province.

Prior to the current mission, Hungarian air mentors have already worked at the Kabul International Airport (KAIA). The airmen of the Szolnok base – the air and ground crews of Mi–24 attack helicopters – were assigned to the same training battalion, assisting the training of Afghan experts for years as part of the ISAF mission.

One main duty of the Mi–17 individual air advisors currently serving in Kabul is the training of Afghan air crews for operational tasks, which includes further training for pilots-in-command, flying in composite formations, air gunnery and night flying training with NVG.
