Medal Parade, Change of Command and Rotation in the Sinai Peninsula

After a long journey, on September 7 the 33rd rotation (troops and policemen) of the Multinational Forces and Observers (MFO) arrived in the Sinai Peninsula. Led by Lt.-Col. (Eng.) Attila Selmeczi, the 21-strong Hungarian contingent immediately started their immersion training to adapt to the local circumstances, and finished it with a driving test.

Some days later the 21 personnel of the outgoing rotation to return home were said farewell to in a medal parade. Also in attendance at the event were dr. Péter Kveck, the ambassador of the Republic of Hungary to Egypt, Lt.-Col. András György, the Hungarian defence attaché to Israel and Lt.-Col. József Szabó, the Hungarian military attaché to Egypt.

MFO Force Commander Maj.-Gen. Warren J. Whiting, MFO Chief of Staff Col. Monty Willoughby and Col. Michel Brisebois handed over the MFO medals due after a successful six-month tour of duty. Out of the departing personnel, Police Capt. András Szekerka and Police SFC Krisztián Jakab received tokens of appreciation from their commander, Police Capt. Krisztina Kassai and SFC Lóránt Puszta from the Chief of Staff, while Police Chief WO László Kincses, WO Zsolt Zalka and S/Sgt. Orsolya Kiss from the command sergeant major.

The official change of command ceremony took place after the presentation of medals and tokens of appreciation. In the presence of the Force Commander, Lt.-Col. Nándor Kiss, the outgoing commander of the Hungarian contingent handed over the Hungarian tricolors to Lt.-Col. (Eng.) Attila Selmeczi, the new commander.
