Minister of Defence Receives Ambassador of Hungary to UN in New York

On Friday, 25 August Katalin Bogyai, Ambassador of Hungary to the United Nations paid an office call to Minister of Defence Dr. István Simicskó in Budapest.

Katalin Bogyai is Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representative of Hungary to the United Nations in New York. She visited the minister of defence in order to provide him with an update on the work of the Permanent Mission of Hungary to the UN, and some relevant issues that are also related to the Ministry of Defence. At the meeting, the topics included the fact that a permanent liaison officer assisting the activities of the Permanent Mission of Hungary started working in New York in July, which is expected not only to open up further opportunities for Hungarian military diplomacy in the UN but also to expand its set of military advisory tasks with the police aspects of peacekeeping.

During the visit, the delegations discussed some current issues in UN peacekeeping too. Today the Hungarian Defence Forces are present with a total of 90 troops in four UN missions, namely in Cyprus (UNFICYP), Lebanon (UNIFIL), Western Sahara (MINURSO) and the Central African Republic (MINUSCA). Minister of Defence Dr. István Simicskó reasserted that Hungary’s goal is to keep our contributions to UN missions at the same level.
