Altogether 1357 soldiers are buried in the military cemeteries of Staszkówka, Biesna and Zborowice. They all fell in the Galicia theatre of war (the area of today’s Poland) during the Austro-Hungarian winter campaign in early 1915. Of them, the names of 871 ones are known, and more than 710 are Hungarian soldiers killed in action. The majority of the soldiers buried here was fighting in the ranks of the 9th and 16th Hungarian Infantry Regiments, and the sacrifice they made in the face of the Russian army resulted in the famous Gorlice breakthrough.
