Winter Assault in Csobánka

More than 100 officer cadets studying military leadership at the Kossuth Lajos Faculty of Military Science, Zrínyi Miklós University of National Defence are conducting their five-day field training program this week in the Csobánka training area of the HDF Central Training Base, participating in field training exercise Winter Assault 2011. This year the instructors of the university will organize a total of 72 training days for officer cadets at the Csobánka base.

“We Need Many Soldiers Like Him!”

Dr. Csaba Hende, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Hungary presented LTC (Ret.) István Papp with the title “For the Homeland” for his outstanding performance and exemplary courage during his service with the UNAMID peacekeeping mission in Sudan. The award ceremony for the peacekeeper – who was released by his kidnappers in January – was held in the Ministry of Defence in Balaton Street on February 16 in the afternoon hours.

Medal Parade for Peacekeepers

The formal “Welcome Home” ceremony for the 7th rotation of the HDF EUFOR Contingent that recently returned from BosniaHerzegovina was held on February 8 inside the György Klapka Barracks in Tata. Following a six-month tour of duty abroad, every soldier received the Service Medal for Peacekeeping.

Training in Full Swing at Szentendre

“The gateway to the Hungarian Defence Forces” – this is how both soldiers and civilians call the Szentendre barracks, where the HDF Central Training Base (HDF CTB) and the HDF ‘Pál Kinizsi’ NCO Vocational School are co-located. At these two organizations, the preparation of professional and enlisted personnel receiving various training programs and courses is going on continuously. Our colleagues saw ‘training in full swing’ when they visited the CTB in the second week of January.

1375 first year students at the University of National Defence

More than six thousand students have submitted their application to Zrínyi Miklós University of National Defence. The admission marks were announced on July 22 – in September, 1375 first year students will begin their studies in the Bachelors or Masters programmes of the university.

Protecting peace in Cyprus

The 28th rotation of the Hungarian contingent participating in the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) have completed their preparations for the mission. Between 1922 July, Hungarian soldiers leaving for the island in the Mediterranean have demonstrated their skills at the Táborfalva base in the framework of a so-called closing exercise.

‘Gliding weather’ played a joke on many

Today is the last day of this year’s Career Orientation Aviation Camp in Szolnok. The participants of the last tour, which is the fourth in a row, spend as much time in the air as possible, just like other campers did in the previous three weeks. They also had a chance to pay a visit to the Szolnok and the Kecskemét military base. Honvedelem.hu is spending a day with the campers.

Grenade by the fence of a home for the elderly

In week 28, that is between July 12–18, the HDF 1st Honvéd EOD and Warship Battalion received 33 calls. In 15 cases the specialists had to take immediate action because explosive devices were directly threatening human life.

More than a thousand calls in six months

The first half of the year 2010 has ended, giving the EOD specialists of the Hungarian Defence Forces the same amount of work as similar periods in the past years did. Honvedelem.hu asked Lt.Col. Dr. Tibor Horváth, Deputy Commander, HDF 1st Honvéd EOD and Warship Regiment to evaluate the activities of the past six months.
