Four-Star General in Budapest

Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (DSACT) Gen. Mieczyslaw Bieniek recently paid an official visit to Hungary, heading a delegation. The four-star general met with Lt.-Gen. Zoltán Orosz, Deputy Chief of the MoD Defence Staff on Wednesday, July 13, and also was received by Gen. Dr. Tibor Benkő, Chief of the MoD Defence Staff and MoD State Secretary for Public Administration Lajos Fodor on a courtesy call.

Swearing-in Ceremony in Szentendre

A swearing-in ceremony was held in the morning of July 8, Friday in Szentendre, where 54 NCOs-to-be – who graduated from the HDF ‘Kinizsi Pál’ NCO Vocational School in 2010/2011 – were sworn in, together with 122 enlisted men who started out on their military career in April with a basic training at the HDF Central Training Base.

The HDF Have a New Command Sergeant Major

The handover of the position of command sergeant major (CSM) took place in the Ministry of Defence on Wednesday, June 29. The authority of CSM of the Hungarian Defence Forces was transferred from SWO Tibor Bogdán to WO István Kriston, who assumed duties as of July 1. Gen. Dr. Tibor Benkő, the Chief of the MoD Defence Staff delivered a speech at the ceremony; Maj-Gen. István Juhász, Director of Staff (DOS), the chiefs of the MoD Defence Staff directorates and the CSMs of the HDF units and higher-level organizations were also present at the event.

Night of the Museums in Buda Castle

The MoD Military History Institute and Museum (MHIM) took part for the eighth time in the nationwide program series ‘Night of the Museums’. The planning, organization and preparations have been going on since March to make sure that this year’s event can be another success story. Instead of the usual daily turnout of 600 to 800, on June 24 – that is, Midsummer Day, Eve and Night –, thousands of visitors arrived at the three venues: Kapisztrán Square, the courtyard of the museum and the Anjou-promenade. MoD Cabinet Chief Dr. Gábor Szarka also attended the event held in Buda Castle.

A Soldierly Wish

Like a superior, Patrik Henrich was received with military honors in Tata, at the HDF 25th ‘Klapka György’ Infantry Brigade. The troops of the unit lined up and saluted the guest, who was accompanied by Defence Minister Dr. Csaba Hende and Gen. Dr. Tibor Benkő, the Chief of the MoD Defence Staff. The event was quite extraordinary, at least according to Brig-Gen. Zsolt Sándor, the commander of the brigade, a very experienced soldier who has seen a lot in his life but has not yet participated in a similar humanitarian action – until now…

“Once they Put on the Uniform, Everyone will Look the Same…”

On Tuesday, June 7 in the morning the HDF Central Training Base (HDF CTB) in Szentendre was preparing for the arrival and in-processing of 129 young people, among them nine women. After their arrival, new recruits registered and signed on with the chosen military organization, which was followed by a medical examination and a drug test, the handing out of the basic gears, occupation of the quarters and finally, signing the military oath.

Agreements signed

Agreements between the Ministry of Defence and the National Federation of Comrade Associations (BEOSZ), and between the MoD and the Trade Union of HDF Civil Employees (Hodosz) were signed on Monday, March 7 in the Manfred Wörner Room of the Ministry of Defence.

Leadership Briefing

On March 1 Defence Minister Dr. Csaba Hende held a briefing on task assignment and the assessment of the year in the compound of the Ministry of Defence on Lehel Street, Budapest. Dr. Pál Schmitt, the President of the Republic of Hungary and Commander-in-Chief of the Hungarian Defence Forces also attended the meeting and addressed the participants, including the members of the National Assembly Defence and Law Enforcement Committee, the top leaders of the Ministry of Defence and the MoD Defence Staff as well as several generals, commanders of HDF units and leaders of MoD-affiliated institutions.
