Generals Appointed

On Tuesday, October 18 an appointment ceremony for generals took place in Sándor Palace, Budapest. The event was attended by Defence Minister Dr. Csaba Hende, MoD State Secretary for Public Administration Lajos Fodor, Gen. Dr. Tibor Benkő, the Chief of the MoD Defence Staff, MoD Cabinet Chief Dr. Gábor Szarka and the appointed generals’ family members and relatives.

War Hero Brigadier-General Remembered

On October 7, Friday a commemoration ceremony was held on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the departure of Posthumous Brigadier-General Dr. László Török, the war hero of the Hungarian Defence Forces, at the headboard erected in the 52nd lot of the Fiume Road National Graveyard, in Budapest. The patrolling helicopter of the late field officer was shot down above Abkhazia by terrorists. The then 54-year-old Colonel László Török served in the region as the Deputy Chief Military Observer of the UNOMIG (United Nations Observer Mission in Georgia). The tragedy occurred at 9:30 am., on October 8, 2001, 22 kilometres from Suhumi to the east.

Pledge-Making Ceremony for Law Enforcement Students

On October 5 the 10th-year law enforcement students of the ‘Fáy András’ Vocational School and Dormitory made their pledge at a ceremony held in Bátonyterenye, Nógrád County. The educational institution has given proof of its commitment to the defence of the nation and law and order for many years – this was what MoD Cabinet Chief Dr. Gábor Szarka highlighted in his speech too.

Military History Day and Market

Held for the first time on October 1, the Military History Day and Market revived the atmosphere of marketplaces bustling with life in the MoD Military History Institute and Museum (MHIM). On this Saturday the organizers offered historical plays, handicraft market, professional presentations, the procession of re-enactors and several children’s programs to the young and old visitors to the Buda Castle.

„Welcome Home” Ceremony and Signature in Debrecen

On Tuesday, September 20 Defence Minister Dr. Csaba Hende attended the “Welcome Home” ceremony held in the main square of Debrecen for the soldiers who recently served in individual positions in Afghanistan, with the ISAF HDF Provincial Reconstruction Team, the HDF Air Advisory Team (AAT) and the HDF KFOR contingent in Kosovo. In what followed, inside the Mayor’s Office the Defence Minister and László Papp, the Vice-Mayor of Debrecen signed a letter of intent on the conversion of the Gábor Dénes Technical Electronics School and Dormitory into a military secondary school.

19th American-Hungarian Military Medical Conference

The American-Hungarian Military Medical Conference staged for the 19th time is held in the Stefánia Palace between 11 and 15 September. Deputy Chief of the MoD Defence Staff Lt. Gen. Zoltán Orosz opened the event Monday morning, 12 September. The General greeted the 35 American and 20 Hungarian military physicians after the rendition of the American and the Hungarian National Anthems.

Academic Year Starts at National Defence University

The opening ceremony of the 2011/2012 academic year at the Miklós Zrínyi National Defence University (ZMNE) was held in the afternoon of Thursday, September 1. On behalf of the Ministry of Defence, Maj.-Gen. (Ret.) József Ronkovics, ministerial advisor was present at the event together with the representatives of the Police Officer Training College and the Corvinus University.

Honvéd Art Ensemble Nominated for ’Prima Primissima Prize’

Unlike many other cultural institutions of similar genre, the Honvéd Ensemble does not know the concept of summer vacation, namely their appearances come one after the other in quick succession, – said the Art Secretary Zsuzsa Turjányi, who also told us that the Ensemble is shortlisted for this year’s Prima Primissima Prize.

Meeting of Chiefs of Defence

Maj-Gen. Alojz Šteiner, Chief of the General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces, and his Hungarian counterpart, Chief of the MoD Defence Staff Gen. Dr. Tibor Benkő had a meeting in Hungary on Thursday, July 28. At the event held in Lenti, the two parties discussed, among others, the future of the Hungarian-Italian-Slovenian Multinational Land Forces (MLF), the issue of pooling and sharing forces and defence capabilities, and the ways how to further strengthen military-to-military relations between the two countries.

For the Safety of Transportation

MoD State Secretary for Public Administration Lajos Fodor, Chief of the MoD Defence Staff Gen. Dr. Tibor Benkő and Dr. Loránd Becske, the Director-General of the Transportation Safety Bureau (TSB) signed an agreement on Wednesday, July 13 in the Manfred Wörner Room of the Ministry of Defence.
