Hungarian Days in Arad

On Sunday, October 2 the participants of the cultural program series “Hungarian Days in Arad” commemorated the heroes of the 1848/49 Revolution and War of Independence, including the 13 martyrs of Arad and the anonymous honvéd soldier heroes, as well as the Hungarian troops defending the Vaskapu (Iron Gate on River Danube) in 1944. The occasion provided an opportunity for the book launch of the album “Our Beautiful Arad County” and the wreaths of remembrance were also laid at the Honvéd monument unveiled in the town cemetery. Defence Minister Dr. Csaba Hende delivered speeches and laid wreaths at both venues.

Remembrance of the Cadet Schools at the Zrínyi University

On Wednesday, September 28 in the joint organisation of the Ministry of Defence and the Honvéd Re-enactment Association (HOHE) the one-time students commemorated the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the six Cadet Schools operating from 1941 until 1945 in the Banquet Hall of the Zrínyi Miklós National Defence University (ZMNE). The wife of the President of the Republic Katalin Schmittné Makray, Dr. István Simicskó, the MoD Parliamentary State Secretary and the former Prime Minister Dr. Péter Boross were also present at the event.

Ceremonial Visit of German Military Attachés at the Minister of Defence

On Thursday, September 15, Defence Minister Dr. Csaba Hende received in his office on a ceremonial visit Col. Ulrich Pfeiffer, the Military Attaché of the Federal Republic of Germany accredited to our country, now resigning from his post, and the new Military Attaché Col. Manfred Knopp, introducing himself. At the event present was also the Deputy State Secretary for Defence Economy Dr. Gábor Márki.

Practical State-of-the-Art Knowledge for Emergency Situations

The almost three thousand medical and within that military medical students of the Semmelweis University can develop their skills in a unique simulation and skill centre from the academic year 2012/2013. The training-service knowledge-centre and laboratory introducing the new education culture was completed in the framework of the New Széchenyi Plan, with a contribution of 330 million forints (1.2 million Euros, $1.6 million), received with the help of the European Union. The University and the NATO Military Medical Centre of Excellence (NATO MILMED COE) signed a cooperation agreement on Wednesday, September 7 in the Semmelweis Hall of the University.

They Have to Prove Themselves to Their Own Soldiers from Tomorrow on

Sixty-four ‘honvéd’ officer cadets, the students of the HDF Ludovika Battalion who successfully completed their studies at the ‘Miklós Zrínyi’ National Defence University (ZMNE) in 2011 received their diplomas at a graduation ceremony held on August 17. Among them, 23 students earned the honorary title ‘For Excellent School Achievements’. Other ‘honvéd’ officer cadets received Ludovika memorial rings, the ‘János Bolyai’ Military Engineer Prize and different grades of the ‘Kossuth Passing-Out Medal’.

Generals Appointed and Promoted

In the morning of August 19 – acting on Defence Minister Dr. Csaba Hende’s recommendation – Dr. Pál Schmitt, the President of the Republic of Hungary handed over documents on appointments and promotions to generals on the occasion of Hungary’s national holiday, in a ceremony held inside Sándor Palace at Buda Castle.

Nándorfehérvár Victory Commemorated at the Danube Day Celebration

The triumphant battle of Nándorfehérvár, which was fought 555 years ago, was also commemorated on Friday, July 22 at the series of events entitled Danube Day Celebration. The keynote speaker of the event was Dr. István Simicskó, the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence.

The Homeland and the Nation Come First!

On Saturday, July 16 a graduation ceremony was held at the Zrínyi Miklós National Defence University (ZMNE), where 285 students received their first, second or third diplomas. Many of them were awarded tokens of appreciation for their outstanding academic, scientific, and public achievements.

Command Sergeant Majors’ Exchange of Experiences in Budapest

Similarly to most NATO member states, the command sergeant major system has already been developed and is in operation in Hungary, too, so there are plenty of occasions for the exchange of professional experiences. This was the aim of CSM Kerry J. Boggs, Command Sergeant Major, NATO HQ Sarajevo, who arrived in Hungary on Saturday, July 16 for a formal visit. The guest was received and accompanied on his program by WO István Kriston, the Command Sergeant Major of the Hungarian Defence Forces.
