The Conference of National Armaments Directors held its second session this year in Brussels on October 13. The event was a meeting of top officials responsible for armaments cooperation in the 28 NATO Member States and the PfP countries.

The Conference of National Armaments Directors (CNAD) is a senior NATO committee responsible for armaments cooperation among the countries. The CNAD was opened by Patrick Auroy, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Defence Investment. Ms. Claude-France Arnould, the Chief Executive of the European Defence Agency (EDA) and several directors of NATO agencies also attended the event.

During the conference Detlef Selhausen, the armaments director of the Federal Republic of Germany Ministry of Defence and Hungarian MoD Deputy State Secretary for Defence Economy Gábor Márki – in his capacity as National Armaments Director – held talks on the armaments cooperation between Germany and Hungary. In accordance with the conclusions of the preceding talks between the two countries’ state secretaries in Berlin, the two armaments directors agreed to organize a Hungarian-German conference on the issues of cooperation in Hungary in the first quarter of 2012.

The primary aim of the conference for subject matter experts (SMEs) will be to elaborate the topics related to defence capabilities and the defence industry, and to introduce the current state of the reforms of the armed forces in the two countries and exchange experience about them. Gábor Márki and Detlef Selhausen agreed that strengthening the cooperation between Hungary and Germany must be a priority in a period of economic austerity measures.
