The NATO Center of Excellence for Military Medicine (NATO MILMED COE) organized a Medical Evaluation (MEDEVAL) course in Budapest between February 20–24. The course was attended by 25 soldiers from 10 countries.

Subject matter experts (SMEs) in military medicine from 10 countries registered for the Medical Evaluation course that was run by the Budapest-based NATO Center of Excellence for Military Medicine (NATO MILMED COE) between February 20–24. MILMED COE Training Branch Chief Col. Dr. László Fazekas told us that the aim of the course was to prepare the participating SMEs to be able to properly evaluate the capability of the Multinational Medical Units (MMUs) deployed in NATO missions.

That is, they had to validate if the MMUs meet the minimum requirements laid down in NATO standards and a doctrine.

The present one is the fourth one-week course, and there is a growing interest in it. In addition to the MILMED COE framework/sponsoring nations, SMEs in the field of military medicine from other nations expressed their intention to attend, and there are some former students of the course who are now participating in the work as instructors", the colonel told us.

On the first three days of the five-day course, the participants carried out classroom syndicate tasks to acquire the theoretical and practical foundations of the activity. On Thursday, February 23 they visited the MoD Military Hospital Medical Preparation and Further Training Centre on Tünde St. within a live exercise (LIVEX), where they evaluated the dental, surgical and patient evacuation modules of a fictitious ROLE-3 (the code of the level providing highest-level medical care) MMU with real equipment, staffs and documents. Col. Fazekas informed us that on the last day, the participants received a certificate to certify that they have completed this NATO-accredited course.
