Medal Parade at EUFOR HQ

The EUFOR HQ at Camp Butmir, Sarajevo held a medal parade on October 25. 73 soldiers of ten nations lined up to receive the decorations, including 16 Hungarian officers and NCOs serving in individual positions who are about to complete their tours of duty.

EUFOR Deputy Commander and Acting Chief of Staff Brig.-Gen. Zoltán Gulyás delivered a speech at the ceremony. He praised the high professional standards of the personnel and their cooperative skills that are indispensable for the high-level functioning of the HQ, which is made up of troops of 26 nations. He also noted that as of January 1, 2012 the structure of the EUFOR HQ will undergo significant transformation, and the structural transformation of the
liaison and observation teams (LOTs) is expected to start in mid-2012.

Brig.-Gen. Gulyás stressed in his speech that the presence of EUFOR is important both for Bosnia-Herzegovina and the European Union because the mission continues to play a key role in maintaining the stability of the country and in supporting its EU- and NATO membership aspirations.
