„I Have a Dream…”

On Monday, January 16 the members of the Heavy Airlift Wing (HAW) stationed in the HDF Pápa Air Base celebrated Martin Luther King’s birthday. To commemorate the famous March on Washington, the participants of the ceremony – including Lt.-Col. Zsolt Magasy, the acting commander of the Base –, went on a silent symbolic march in remembrance of the civil rights leader.

Returning from Missions – Going on Missions

On January 4 a ‘Welcome Home’ ceremony was held at the HDF Joint Force Command (HDF JFC) for the third troop rotation of the HDF National Support Element–Afghanistan (NSE-A) and the first one of the Hungarian logistic mentor team of the HDF ISAF CSS School. The soldiers to deploy in Lebanon (with UNIFIL) and in the Western Sahara (with MINURSO) – where they are to fill individual positions in the missions – were bidden farewell on the same occasion.

The Fleet Takes Off!

HDF JFC: New Commander, New Ambitions

Maj.-Gen. László Domján, the former Director-General of the Military Security Office is going to replace Lt.-Gen. József Kovács in the commander’s post of the HDF Joint Force Command (HDF JFC). Prime Minister Viktor Orbán recently appointed the lieutenant-general as the Director-General of the Military Intelligence Office.

Logistics under Transformation

Tour of Duty Abroad in Individual Positions

The troops to deploy in the Balkans Joint Operations Area (JOA) and Congo were bidden farewell to at the HDF Joint Force Command (HDF JFC) in Székesfehérvár on Wednesday, November 9. Eleven troops commence their service in Kosovo from December, twenty-two in Bosnia-Herzegovina and one in Congo.

New National Capability in NATO

At the Washington Summit, NATO’s Heads of States launched a Defence Capabilities Initiative to respond to the challenges of our age. In line with this, the 1st and 2nd NATO Signal Battalions were constituted to provide communications and information systems (CIS) services to meet the new operational requirements. In 2010, the 3rd NATO Signal Battalion was formed. Its assigned groupings include the Deployable CIS Module (DCM), a company-sized Hungarian CIS unit.

End of the HDF Mission in Iraq

The role of the Hungarian Defence Forces in Iraq concluded with a “Welcome Home ceremony” held at the HDF Joint Force Command (HDF JFC) on September 28. Lt.-Col. László Tempfli, Maj. (Eng.) Virgil Baranyai and Maj. (Eng.) Gyula Varjú have returned from the NATO Training Mission – Iraq (NTM-I) as the last Hungarian soldiers to serve in the Arab country. Hungarian troops have participated in the stabilization process since August 2003. During the Welcome Home ceremony held on Wednesday, several other soldiers and policemen were greeted upon their return from missions in Afghanistan, the Balkans, the Sinai Peninsula, Serbia, Georgia and Somalia.

Prayer for the Heroes

The War Council of Sukoró held 163 years ago was commemorated with an ecumenical prayer service and a festive program on Wednesday, September 28 in the Reformed Church of the village. During the event the Honvéd Male Choir and the Székesfehérvár Garrison Band appeared. The participants put the wreaths of remembrance on the church wall at the end of the ceremony.
