The participants lined up by nations at the main tribune of the Lest training area in Slovakia,
where Col. Miroslav Pelikan, the director of the Multinational Logistic Cooperation Centre
(MLCC) and director of “Capable Logistician 2013 LIVEX" opened the exercise.
Miroslav Pelikan thanked Slovakia, the host of the exercise for the support given during
the preparations, and wished every success for the rest of the exercise. He welcomed the
representatives of participating nations and commands, pointing out that the present one is the
largest logistic exercise in NATO’s history.
The last similar exercise was held in 2004, but the present one exceeds it in the number of
logistic functional areas, participating nations and military equipment. The director stressed
that the exercise objective was to “assess the interoperability of logistic systems" through the
logistic functional areas, as well as the standardizations of NATO procedures. The objective is
to implement the principle of collective responsibility, which is shared by all NATO member
states.
